Star Happy

Star's Story

Star was taken into a Southern California shelter by animal services when her owner was hospitalized. Since the owner can no longer care for Star, and since no relatives were found who would take her, Samoyed Rescue of Southern California (SRSC) took her in. Her real name is unknown--the shelter didn't get that information. Originally we were calling her Honey, but when her foster mom told her she was a "star", this girl responded to the word. So, now she's our beautiful and brilliant Star.

Star is about 6 years old. She is good with other dogs and loves children. She is housetrained, uses a doggie door, and can go up and down stairs just fine. This might not seem especially noteworthy, except that Star is completely blind! This amazing girl takes the stairs with ease and uses the doggie door without prompting. We believe Star has probably been blind since birth or early puppyhood, so she's well-adjusted to her condition. Don't tell Star she has a "handicap", because she isn't aware of any!

Star was obviously well-loved and cared for by her previous family. She has a very happy disposition, is not at all skittish despite being blind, is independent, and is affectionate without being needy. She loves to explore the outside world and entertains herself in the yard very well. She even found and remembered her way into and out of the house through the doggie door in just a couple of days.
